Sophomore Inspire Week
During our two days off campus, we were assigned two tasks within our project. The project involved marketing skills to advertise the Be Local coupon book, made by Local First, to tourists, locals, and the general community. We were to create an image to advertise the coupon book for Local First to post on their social media, or flyers to place around town. Our second task was to create a media piece whether, it be a video, stop motion, or image, to advertise one specific coupon, chosen by us for Local First to post as well.
While we worked on this project we obtained marketing skills and learned how to bring an artistic aspect to it. This included how to advertise to a specific group or buyer and the best times to advertise. Learning these skills in advertisement allowed us to build off of that and create something that was more artistic, lending a hand in the advertising.
This project really gave me the opportunity to be creative and problem solve. I was continually running different ideas that I had and this that I had been inspired by past my group mate. Something that I was really inspired by was the idea of shopping locally and supporting our economy. This is something that we were taught about during our internship, and I resonated with particularly. Since I was able to connect this project to my personal life, I became very dedicated and engaged. This was shown in the support and positivity that I expressed to my group. I encouraged us to push our ideas and helping them when we got ready for our final product presentation.
However, I feel as though it would have been more influential if I had stepped back more in the project. I became very committed and invested in the project and would express what I wanted it to look like and the ways that we could achieve this result. I asked the team for there opinion; however, in the end, I wish I would have bee silent some times and asked them more about what they thought. If I had had the understanding and awareness of this in the project, I think it would have pushed out product to the next level by utilizing the individuality of multiple perspectives.
